Universal charger for cellphones coming soon

Soon all phones from Apple, Nokia, Samsung and Research In Motion and other manufacturers could be using a single universal standard charger. The European Union (EU), back in June 2009, had 14 cellphone makers on board who signed an agreement for a universal charger. Now the EU has sent out details on the technical specifications of the charger to all the manufacturers.

The specs of the charger are based on a micro-USB connector. With the last nail hitting the idea of a universal charger, the notion could soon turn into reality and practised within a few months time. However, this will be true in the case of Europe and for it to spread worldwide, will still take more time.

The micro-USB is already quite popular among the manufacturers, and many of them have begun the steps for such changes to happen.

When the charger hits the market, it will bring along a lot of advantages. It will minimise the incompatibility of chargers for various mobile phones - making life easier for cellphone users, and also protect the environment by reducing waste.
